Success Stories - Gem Flora
Miiv Flora was established in the year 2013, at Mayflower Market by 2 enterprising young chaps, Ivan Puay and John Seng, both in their 30s. They started off by selling, importing and exporting flowers. Once they have gained enough experience in this industry, an opportunity came and in the year 2019, they bought over Gem Flora and started expanding their business. They started supplying flora products to many retailers, doing decorations to hotel and restaurants, as well as decoration Muslim weddings.
To spin off the digital solutions, Gem Flora started hosting Facebook Live Flora Classes, as well as catering business for Wedding Decorations. They also started promoting their business further, in on-line platforms like Carousell, various webpages from relating industries and tag along on various related Facebook pages. Through the trials, they have decided to focus more on both small and large-scale Malay Weddings, as these are the main revenue generators.
After internal discussions and exploration, both Ivan and John started to work out and in-house e-commerce app. This app allows and act like a virtual wedding planner for these young couples. The app has a wholistic Eco system, that caters to planning of an entire wedding routine. The couple is able to book studio photography, wedding gown, wedding car, wedding venue, wedding decoration, buffet and to check and balance their total expenditure. Once they have run through the app bookings like their check list, they will also receive their e-invoices and able to make their e-payment without the hassle of handling cash.
Moving forward, Ivan and John also plan to expand the Eco-system, by including in the app, house decoration and baby planning services. In this way, it this becomes a one-stop- solution for young couples to plan from wedding, to building their dream home, reaching out to the relevant interior designer to purchase relevant furniture and fittings, preparing for the arrival of their babies and further furnishing and decorating their home, all with a touch of a finger. They see a great potential and opportunity, to fully digitised their business in the new norm. They fully believe this would work for the younger generation, as this is their main target market. Meanwhile, they will continue to retain their market stall to connect with the older generation, in terms of physical presence with a personal touch, in order to continue and retain the heritage of Hawker business in Singapore.
