About The Event

Organised since 2021 to better guide heartland business owners on your innovation journey, the Heartland Innovation Challenge brings together heartland enterprises and tertiary students from institutes of higher learning to co-create new products/ services, develop new sales channels, and create fresh business formats.

As part of the structured innovation process, heartland enterprises will be guided by industry experts to refine problem statements and learn about relevant trends and industry developments to scope possible solutions. The participating companies will also be matched with dedicated student teams to co-create viable solutions, build low-fidelity prototypes and develop go-to-market strategies and business proposals.

Heartland Innovation Challenge 2024

15 Heartland Enterprises participated in the 4-month Heartland Innovation Challenge (HIC) programme held from Apr to Aug 2024. The programme is modelled as a Group-based Industry Project between NYP School of Design & Media and FMAS. Student teams from Diploma in Interaction Design and Diploma in Experiential Product & Interior Design with protected time within curriculum hours to work on the solutioning.

The programme consists of Problem Statement refinement workshop, one-on-one consultation with trainer, developing solutions for the identified problem statement, and finally the solutioning and co-creation process. The work was then concluded by a pitch and showcase of lo-fi prototype by the student team and one-on-one check-in with facilitating lecture. At the end of the programme, the proposed solutions were market tested and solutions were refined.
